Kids Podcasts Launches an iPhone App That Locks a Child’s Podcast Library to What Parents Choose

Kids Podcasts (kidspodcasts.com), the parent-built discovery site for children’s podcasts, has launched its iPhone app: a podcast player where the child’s listening library is locked to the shows and playlists a parent or guardian approves. No open search, no algorithmic recommendations, no chat — a child sees only what a grown-up approves, and nothing else. The app is available now on the App Store.

Mainstream podcast apps treat children as an afterthought: a search for “otters” or “volcanoes” returns adult shows alongside kids’ content. Other apps, although kid-oriented, allow children to access everything in the kid’s catalog. Kids Podcasts starts from the opposite premise — the parent curates first, the child listens second.

In the app, parents can:

• Approve once, or every time — when a podcast is added to the library, future episodes can be automatically approved, or first reviewed and approved before reaching the child’s library.
• Set listening rules — daily limits, quiet hours, and show-by-time-of-day schedules (energetic shows for the drive, calm ones at bedtime).
• Build playlists that keep up — pick the shows once and new episodes appear automatically.
• Hand over a locked kid mode — the child’s view holds only approved audio, behind a grown-up PIN.
• Listen beyond the app — send any playlist to a Yoto player in one tap, export an RSS feed for any podcast app, or download MP3s for offline car rides or other audio players.

“I built this first to find episodes about my son’s latest obsessions without digging through hundreds of search results. As other parents found it useful, it’s kept growing. The idea has stayed the same the whole way: parents should be able to control what podcasts they want their family to hear, when their children can listen, and how they listen.”

The app is built to a strict privacy posture: it shows no ads, embeds no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and keeps children’s data to a minimum, with automatic data deletion. Behind the catalog is a human editorial process: every one of the 200+ shows has been vetted and hand-tagged by age and topic before being added.
